...You see what I did there with the title? ;) Well actually, only if you pronounce it how Vietnamese people say it, but then again I'm guessing not everyone will realise that. =SIt's not really that impressive, but ya'know. But ACTUALLY, I think it works both ways.
Although I didn't really try it abroad on a vacation or anything, nor did I try it at a Vietnamese restaurant but in fact, I tried it for the first time home-cooked by someone Vietnamese who is the mother of a friend, a few weeks ago (or was it a month ago already?). I think that way is a pretty 'close-to-legit' way of tasting this 'dish' for the first time and as a first post about food in this new blog of mine, I thought it would be pretty good to use this to start things of with my "Food" tag. Wait, hang on, is the word...authentic?
For our first and second time, we had ours with beef. The first time we tried it, there was oxtail as an extra side dish. The two sauces shown on the picture above are like dipping sauces: one hot and spicy and the other, hot and spicy mixed with BBQ. I liked the mixed one. ^ ^
The taste is quite similar to other dishes I've tried, but with different noodles. I can't remember the name of it from the top of my head right now, sorry! The green stuff, is like some herby things, spring onions and stuff.
I'm a big fan of noodles, you know, being Asian and all. =') But the noodles used for this one, it is thick and a white-almost-transparenty colour. The soup part is a mild taste, but enough to give the dish flavour.
I'd say that this Vietnamese dish is pretty good and I know that it is a popular meal eaten at special events or at restaurants. In fact, in town, there's a new (at least I think it is, since it was my first time seeing it there) Vietnamese restaurant called Pho but I haven't been there yet.
The portion we had was rather fulling, but I didn't really mind since I LOVE to eat. Also, it's great to have with good company.
Try it sometime guys~
